[one_half][ads1][/one_half]BSc Perfusion Technology is about how to run machinery that assists a patient’s own respiratory or circulatory system during an operation or other medical procedures. A perfusionist is a skilled, allied health professional, trained and educated as a member of an open-heart, surgical team. Perfusionists are responsible for selection, set-up and operation of the heart-lung machine. Besides operating the machine, the perfusionist is responsible for monitoring the circulatory process and taking appropriate corrective action when abnormal situations arise in complementing the surgeon and anesthetist.
Perfusion technologists set up and operate the heart-lung machine and other sophisticated equipment used in the operating room. In addition, perfusionists, directed by the surgeon and anesthesiologist, are responsible for regulating the patient’s levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide; for measuring selected laboratory values such as blood cell count and for monitoring circulation.
BSc Perfusion Technology Eligibility
Should have passed Senior Secondary (12th Standard / Intermediate) examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology from Central Board of Secondary Education or any other examination recognized by R G U H S as equivalent.
Lateral Entry
Candidates who have secured a diploma in Perfusion Technology from a board recognized by the Government or any other equivalent authority can gain entry to second year of the course.
Academic Year Commencement
August – September.

Scope
Perfusionists work in several different environment, but are usually employed by hospitals. Individual surgeons and companies that supply facilities with perfusion services employ them in various roles. They may also work in research and development or in marketing or sales. There is expected expansion of 20% – 35% in job opportunities over the next ten years.
This is partly due to the rapidly aging baby-boon generation that will require more open-heart surgeries as they get older. There will also be job opening due to current cardiovascular professionals retiring or leaving the field for other other reasons. Because the profession is relatively small and competitive, job security should be high for these cardiac professionals.
