[one_half][ads1][/one_half]An operation theatre technician is a person who looks after all the work and management of the operation theatre which includes managing the patients in and out of operation theatre, looking after all the surgical instruments, their sterilization, arrangement of operation theatre table, dressing table, instrument table, anesthesia table as well as management of the staff. They look after the drugs the required for surgery, anesthetic gases, drapes and all the linen and their sterilization. They also assist the surgeon during the operations. In short, operation theatre technicians have to manage and organize whole of the operation theatre without whom no surgeon can operate on the patients and neither can a hospitals or a nursing home run or be complete. They are know as backbone of the operation theatre.

Operation Theatre Technology work as reliable members of health care teams under the guidance and supervision of nursing anesthetic and surgical staff during surgery. They work in private and government hospitals, nursing homes or health care settings.

Operation Theatre Technology Eligibility

Should have passed Senior Secondary (12th Standard / Intermediate) examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology from Central Board of Secondary Education or any other examination recognized by R G U H S as equivalent.

Lateral Entry

Candidates who have secured a diploma in OT Technology from a board recognized by the Government or any other equivalent authority can gain entry to second year of the course.

Academic Year Commencement

August – September.

Course Duration

3 yrs & 6 months.

Scope

This is a job oriented paramedical area and gives tremendous job opportunities. Due to the fast expanding medical care facilities in the government as well as private sector, there is lot of scope for operation theatre assistants and technicians. In India additional; source of new jobs are opening up in the field of allied health science. Globally healthcare is a $4.5 trillion industry, waiting to be tapped in India. It has been observed for a long time that there has been an acute shortage of qualified operation theatre technicians.
